Gladys Peterson

March 9, 1922 — October 11, 2012

Gladys J. Peterson, age 90, passed away on Thursday October 11, 2012, at her home surrounded by family. Gladys was born on March 9, 1922, in Deer Creek, Wisconsin, to the late John and Augusta (Werth) Schinke. She married Roland “Pete” Peterson on December 3, 1941, in Steelville, Missouri.
Gladys enjoyed being a homemaker; she and Pete made their home in Appleton and raised two lovely daughters. She was a wonderful cook; her pies were the pride of every Thanksgiving meal. Gladys always welcomed family and friends to her table, and never let anyone leave hungry. The home where she and Roland lived during their retirement on Boundary Lake, near Crivitz, was always the center of action for family, neighbors, and friends near and far, who stopped by for company and conversation. She never lost her wit and spark, and she never traveled far without a laugh and a smile. She loved to read and devoured anything between two covers. She also enjoyed creating treasures of all kinds, from cozy afghans to jeweled artwork, each one an endeavor of love, each one an instant heirloom. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have had her in their lives.
She is survived by her husband, Roland, of 70 years; two daughters, Patricia (Larry) Rogers and Peggy (Mike) Goss of Appleton; three granddaughters, Kristin (fiancé Chad Hansen) Rogers of Madison; Nicole (Brian Zoellner) Rogers of Jacksonville, Florida; Sara (Brian) Osborne of Colorado Springs Colorado; one great-granddaughter, Maisie Osborne; and one sister Laverne Zuleger. Gladys will also be remembered by her nieces, nephews and many beloved relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her four brothers and three sister-in-laws, Ernest (Margie), Alvin (Florence), Arnold (Molly) and John; two sisters and three brothers-in-law, Violet (Minden) Deltgen, Loretta (George) Dingeldein, and Gaylord Zuelger.
Gladys was a member on Zion Lutheran Church of Appleton. She became a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Crivitz upon her and Roland's retirement at their lake home near Crivitz. Their home near Boundary Lake brought many years of enjoyment.
The funeral service for Gladys will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 19, 2012, at HIGHLAND MEMORIAL PARK STAR OF HOPE CHAPLE (3131 N Richmond St. Appleton) with Pastor Mark Hannerman officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Alzheimer's Association are appreciated.
