Age 84, died Friday, September 28, 2001, at Franciscan Care Center. Gerhardt was born on September 24, 1917, in Fremont, Wisconsin, to the late Walter and Helena (Schiesser) Arndt. He married Lorraine Lewis on October 15, 1938, in Waupaca, Wisconsin. Gerhardt lived and worked in Waupaca and was a member of the Waupaca Volunteer Fire Department. He served his country in the United States Navy—Seabees, from 1943-1945. Gerhardt was honorably discharged with the American Arena Ribbon, The Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and the Victory Medal, One Star. After service, he returned to Waupaca and worked for Waupaca Motor Sales. He then lived and worked in Neenah for Kimberly Clark. Gerhardt then moved to Oshkosh and worked for Lenox Candle Company. He returned to Kimberly Clark, Neenah, as a millwright until his retirement in 1982. He enjoyed travel and visiting historic places. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Lorraine; his daughter, Judith Ann Schmidt, Hortonville; his son, Richard (Joan) Arndt, Park City, Utah; his son, Gary (Mary) Arndt, Appleton; his brothers, Robert (Phyllis) Arndt, Neenah, and Frank (Judy) Arndt, North Carolina; his sisters, Esther Hoyman, Norwalk, Ohio; Ruth (Ralph) Strohschien, Oshkosh; and Vivian Arndt, Menasha; his grandchildren, Tammy Frielander, Carrie Sullivan, Michelle Kompola, Richard Schmidt, Renee VanderWielen, Lisa Schmidt, Cory Arndt and Erik Arndt; his ten great grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Leona Strohschien, and his brothers-in-law, Maynard Strohschien and Ernest Hoyman, daughter-in-law, Carolyn (Richard) Arndt. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, October 1, 2001, at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 East Glendale Avenue, Appleton, with Rev. Paul Brinkman officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.
