Emmett John Decker

June 29, 1918 — November 22, 2008

Emmett John Decker, 90, of Appleton, died Saturday morning, November 22, 2008 at Cherry Meadows Hospice.
Emmett was born June 29, 1918 to the late Anton and Catherine (Striegel) Decker in Seymour, WI. He attended local schools in the Fox Valley, and was a graduate of Morgan High School, class of 1936. Emmett enlisted in the US Army where he served in WWII with the 121st Calvary and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in the European War.
On May 25, 1946 Emmett and Gertrude Baumann were united in marriage. Together the couple enjoyed 56 wonderful years together, before Gertrude passed away, August 10, 2002.
Emmett was a machinist employed by Appleton Machine Company, and retired from Appleton Wire Company after 25 years of employment. He enjoyed coin collecting, fishing, hunting, biking, gardening, and was a long time Pigeon Fancier.
Emmett was a charter member at St. Bernadette Catholic Parish.
Emmett is survived by two nephews, James (Cindy) Decker of Appleton, and David (Cathy) Decker of Hortonville; a niece Patricia Fisk of Oshkosh; two brothers-in-law, Raymond (Virginia) Baumann and Carl (Eileen) Baumann; five sisters-in-law, Clara Baumann, Marie Bushman, Elizabeth (Russ) Burns, Jean Baumann, and Marion Baumann; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Gertrude, Emmett is preceded in death by his brother Martin (Helen) Decker and his sister Margaret Decker.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 AM Tuesday, November 25, at ST. BERNADETTE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2331 E. Lourdes Dr. Appleton. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held Monday, November 24, at Wichmann Funeral Home, 537 N. Superior St. from 4-7 PM with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 PM. There will also be visitation at the Church from 10:30 AM Tuesday until the time of service.
A memorial fund has been established in Emmett's name.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and caregivers at Cherry Meadows Hospice Center for their compassion and support.
