Elda Ehlke reached her spiritual goal when she entered her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, December 31, 2008. Elda was born on November 12, 1919, to Herman and Louise (Kuschel) Leisering. Elda married Clarence “Red” Ehlke on Nov.7 1942 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Appleton. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage. Elda is survived by her children; Kathryn Weihing, Waukesha; Bob Ehlke (Judy), Casey, Ill; Tom (Joy) Ehlke, and Don of Appleton. Sisters Verna Buesing, Norma (Fred) Martinson, Betty (Brooks) Dodd. She was the beloved grandmother of Michael (Sandra) Weihing, Deb (David) Diffor, David (Lee Ellen) Weihing, Scott (Kathie), Kevin (Stephanie), Josh, Mark (Mandy), and Brett (Lori) Ehlke, Kira (Kenneth) Goble, and Kay (Drew) Simms. She adored her great grandchildren; Mikaela and Caroline Weihing, John, Caleb, Alex, and Maleka Diffor; Nate and Elliot Weihing; Braden, Emma, and Melita Ehlke. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Clarence “Red”; brothers Lothar, Robert, Edward, and Carl; sisters Mildred Persons and Eleanor Gerald; brothers-in-law Dar Roa, Melvin Buesing, Don Gerald; sister-in-law Anne Leisering and son-in-law, Wally Weihing. Elda was a 1937 graduate of Appleton High School. After high school she was employed with AAL for several years. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran church and enjoyed walking with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ daily. She was a faithful member of the St. Paul Ladies Aid (including serving in various offices), sang in the choir, greeted in church and was an avid Bible class participant. She enjoyed volunteering for the developmentally disabled, both in Appleton and at the Bethesda Lutheran Home in Watertown, Wisconsin. She was involved in the Valparaiso Guild for many years. Elda was a loving, caring, and devoted daughter, mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be missed by family and friends. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at ST. PAUL EVANGELICAL. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 North Morrison Street, Appleton, with Pastor Paul Jenkins officiating. Friends may call directly at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Interment will be in Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fox Valley Lutheran High School or Time of Grace Ministries.
