Earl Nettekoven

September 16, 1939 — October 6, 2011

Earl Nettekoven, age 72, passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton on Thursday, October 6, 2011. His family and friends were at his side. He was born in Kaukauna on September 16, 1939, son of the late John and Anna (Micke) Nettekoven. Earl attended school at Sacred Heart in Sherwood, and grew up on the family farm in Woodville. He married Geneva Wenzel, who preceded him in death in 1967. In 1973, Earl married Marilyn. For many years, he operated the family dairy farm, which is now operated by his son. He also worked for many years at the James River Canal Plant until his retirement. He was a former member of the Sherwood Lions Club, and loved spending time socializing around town with family members and friends. He loved being the guy everyone always wanted to talk with! His family parties were wonderful, and his grandchildren loved listening to his banjo and accordion playing.

Earl is survived by his wife: Marilyn Nettekoven of Sherwood; four children: Steve Nettekoven of Sherwood; Vince (Donna) Nettekoven of Kaukauna; Anna (Brian) Mauel of Sherwood; and Keith (Nicole) Nettekoven of Sherwood; a special nephew: Todd (Nancy) Wenzel and their children Dylan and Brady; eleven grandchildren: Jeremy (Beth) Nettekoven, Ashley Nettekoven and her special friend Michael Eichmeier, Jason Mauel, Aaron Mauel, Geneva Mauel and her fiancé Casey Haen, Brooklyn Nettekoven, Kasey Nettekoven, Halle Nettekoven, Cooper Nettekoven, Alexa Nettekoven, and Grady Nettekoven; four great-grandchildren: Carter and Caylee Nettekoven, Blake Marx, and Olivia Mauel; six brothers and sisters: Jerome Nettekoven of Kaukauna, Dorothy Schroeder of Appleton, Jack Nettekoven and his special friend Marianne Ver Bockel of Neenah, Ervin (Janice) Nettekoven of Winneconne, Connie (Eugene) Nett of Sherwood, and James (Donna) Nettekoven of Appleton; two sisters-in-law: Shirley Nettekoven of Sherwood and Kathleen (Don) Baertschy of Eagle River; three brothers-in-law: Dean (Gloria) Onan of Amherst Junction, Paul (Patricia) Onan of Amherst Junction, and Dale (Barbara) Onan of Amherst. Earl is also survived by Geneva's family: Rosemary Vomberg of Milwaukee, Carol Wenzel of Appleton, Harley (Ann) Wenzel of Allenton, James (Nancy) Wenzel of Winneconne, Sidney (Penny) Wenzel of Kimberly, Victor (Margaret) Wenzel of Appleton, and Angie (Paul) Koehler of Hilbert. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Geneva, a son Brian in 2010, a brother Alois, a sister Elizabeth (Ed) Buchinger, two brothers-in-law Gilbert Schroeder and Donald Wenzel, and sisters-in-law Dorothy Nettekoven, Shirley Nettekoven, and MaryAnn (Alan) Seffker.

The funeral liturgy for Earl will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 10, 2011 at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH in Sherwood, with Fr. Michael Betley and Rev. Bill Schroeder officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Monday morning from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM
