Dennis "Denny" L Zimmer

November 5, 1940 — May 6, 2014

It has been said that “each of us is put on earth to learn, share, love, appreciate, and give of ourselves. None of us knows when this fantastic experience will end. It can be taken away at any moment.”
That moment came for Dennis “Denny” Zimmer on May 6, 2014, after a valiant battle with cancer.
Dennis was born November 5, 1940 to the late Delores (Dorn) and Lavern Zimmer. He graduated from Neenah High School and joined the army. He actively served our country for 3 years, 1 month, and 29 days and was honorably discharged.
Dennis worked at Perfect Patterns in Appleton for 31 years. He then started Excel Patterns in Seymour. He retired in 1998 and spent a good share of his time doing what he loved best – enjoying the outdoors. He loved nature and just had to be outside, regardless of the weather – wind, rain, or snowstorm. His great love and pastime was hunting. He never missed an opening day of deer season since turning old enough to hunt deer at 12 years of age. Dennis also enjoyed making things from wood, his final project being a family hunting cabin. Denny also enjoyed playing cards and going out to eat with his wife, family and friends.
Denny learned a lot on this earth, and then he taught us so many of those things so we could continue doing them without his help. Denny shared what he had learned up until his final weeks. He also shared the results of his many talents throughout his life. Over and over we have heard about what he had done for others. He was the type of person that would give you the shirt off his back. Denny showed us his love by all the things he did and made for us. He gave quietly by showing us how to do something or by making something for us, often without being asked to do so.
Denny appreciated this wonderful creation we all live in and has left this world a better place because he was here.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 47 years, Marilyn (Woehler) Zimmer and two sons, William (Nicole) and Kevin (Erin); five grandchildren whom he enjoyed teaching how to fish – Zachary, Keanna, Owen, Ben, and Jack; two sisters – Judie Schmidt and Donna (Gary) Parks; his in-laws – Al Woehler, Char (Tim) Hall, David Woehler, Ron (Terri) Woehler, Nancy (Bob) Pitt; many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents – Delores and Lavern Zimmer; brother-in-law – Jerry Schmidt; mother and father-in-law – Harold and Frances Woehler; and sister-in-law – Janice (the late Jerome) Dethardt.
