Age 59, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2003 at the Hospice at Cherry Meadows following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born on February 12, 1944 in Port Orchard, Washington the daughter of Victor and Marian (Englebert) Kells. On June 4, 1966 she married Eldor “Al” Zastrow at St. Mary Catholic Church in Appleton. They enjoyed over 36 years of marriage. She loved to read mystery novels, bird watching, working on her computer, recording movies on her VCR, and watching the Packers. She also loved to make crafts for her family. One of the greatest joys in her life was her dogs and cats.
She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and godmother and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Eldor “Al” Zastrow of Mackville, her son Steve Zastrow of Texas, her mother Marian Kells, her five sisters Sandy (Stan) Woldt, Kris (Jim) Oates, Cindy (Al) Roskom all of Appleton, Nancy (Rick) Paris of Blandon, Pennsylvania, Janet (Doug) Bauer of New London, and one brother Joe Kells of Appleton. Denise is also survived by four sisters-in-law La Vonne Weyland and Carol Hoag both of Neenah, Karen Lalande of Appleton, and Louise Zastrow of Howards Grove, Wisconsin; two brothers-in-law Eugene (Jane) Zastrow of Appleton, and Dennis Zastrow of Texas; her godsons Scott Woldt and Jay (Mary) Weyland; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, father-in-law, mother-in-law, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law, and nephews.
According to Denise’s wishes, her family celebrated her life with a living wake on January 31, 2003. A private family service will be held at a later date, and she will be cremated.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of the Hospice at Cherry Meadows, Dr. Anthony Phillips, Fr. Mike O’Rourke, her special sister and brother-in-law Sandy and Stan Woldt, and the rest of the family who visited and offered loving support.
