Carol Ann Hanson

Of Appleton, age 73, passed away on March 8, 2003, following a courageous battle with cancer. Carol was born on April 8, 1929, in Green Bay to the late James Jay, Sr. and Margaret (Van Dycke) Lison. She graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1947 and attended Stout Institute, majoring in Home Economics. Carol married Robert B. Hanson in 1949 in Menominee, Michigan, and they enjoyed 48 years of marriage together. He preceded her in death on June 15, 1998.

Upon graduation from Stout, Carol and Bob moved to Escanaba in 1951. Together they enjoyed many summers at Camp Owakonze, in Ontario, Canada. The family moved to Appleton in 1966. Carol joined the editorial staff of the Post-Crescent in 1968 and retired as Lifestyle Editor in 1988. Carol was community-minded. Among her many civic activities were serving on the board of directors for the Red Cross, the Attic Theater, the Arts Alliance, and the League of Women Voters; she was also on the church council at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Escanaba, Michigan and a member of King’s Daughters. She was also an avid cross-stitcher, knitter, gardener and loved to read. Camping with her family at Wells Park was one of her favorite past-times.

Survivors include her sons, John (Lynn Fredrickson) Hanson, Marinette, and Gregory Hanson, Appleton; her daughter, Kim (Dale) Hanson, Appleton; her grandchildren, Matthew, Meghan, Ann and Benjamin Hanson, and Lisa Halla. She is further survived by her brother James Jay (Marion) Lison, Jr., Madison.
