Amelia Lee

January 12, 1924 — August 8, 2011

Age 87, passed away peacefully at Grand Horizons Assisted Living on Monday, August 8, 2011. She was born January 12, 1924 in Marinette, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late William and Frances Matetich. After graduating from Goodman HS, Amy proudly served in the Armed Forces as a Navy WAVE during WWII. On August 28, 1948 she married Russell B. Lee in Goodman, Wisconsin. When she returned from service, Amy attended UW-Stout, formerly Stout Institute, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in home economics. She taught home economics at Roosevelt Junior High School in Appleton for 30 years.

Amy and Russ retired to Naples, Florida in 1989 where they enjoyed golf, socializing with their many friends, and sharing their home with family. After Russell died, Amy moved to Oconomowoc to be close to her niece, June Ann, who was like a daughter to her – they both truly enjoyed that past 3 years together. She had recently moved back to Appleton to be close to her only son, Tom, of whom she was extremely proud and whom she adored.

Gardening, cooking and golf were three of her favorite hobbies. Amy was a fabulous cook, bestowing her skills onto her son, Tom, who shares her appreciation for good food and her talent for cooking. She loved to tend to her vegetable and flower gardens and took great joy in preparing meals with the fruits of her labor. Though not an avid golfer, she enjoyed the game and was particularly proud of her hole-in-one at Peninsula Golf Course. Of course, Russ was always jealous! Amy and Russell enjoyed road trips over many years and travelled throughout the country with their dear friends, Bud and Theresa Wall. One of their favorite trips was to Naples, Forida, where they settled and made their 20 year retirement.

Amy will be remembered for her very positive nature and her amazing food. She never looked back and she did not complain.

Amy is survived by her son, Tom (fiancée, Kay Theyerl) Lee of Appleton; nieces; June Ann (Sam) Sawant of Hartland and Betsy Piczsor of Green Bay; nephew, Bill Raboin of Fond du Lac; and Clifford (Bud) Wall of Green Bay; and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell, in 2006; sister, Mary (Earl) Raboin; and Betsy's husband, Jim.

A private family service will be held in Green Bay at a later date.

The family extends a special thank you to Dr. Angelo Taleon – ThedaCare Physicians, the staff at Grand Horizons, especially Michele, and ThedaCare at Home Hospice, for their compassionate care.
